For the past week, I’ve been playing around with a scene to submit for Unity’s Flash in a Flash contest. I don’t think I have much of a chance in actually placing in the contest, but I have to say, it’s been fun working towards the goal of finishing a game under such a tight deadline.
My idea is called “Gear Box” It’s a toy for when you just don’t have anything better to do. The goal is to interlock gears together, so that when the hub is activated, all gears will spin. The game uses rigidbodies and physics. I am also testing realtime shadows. So far, I haven’t had any issues exporting the scene to Flash. It’s absolutely amazing how the Unity Guys have been able to get this working. I’m convinced that Unity Technologies actually employs ninjas. How they are able to support so many platforms is nothing short of amazing.
To play, you can left click and drag any gear, except the HUB around the box. Toggling the “R” key will place the gear in/out of rotate mode where moving your mouse left or right will rotate the gear to help line it up.
All that’s left on my checklist is to texture the gears and create a UI. I’ll be creating a video on how this project was made when it’s all finished. The entire scene was created using Luxology modo 501.
